This explosive troupe of dancers and theatre artists are dedicated to sharing the richness of African American culture by delving into the rhythms and roots of the homelands for new generations and diverse audiences.  They will move you—with chest pounding drum, foot stomping dance, and an infectious joy that captures and holds heart and spirit...out of Africa, living on in America.

A Closer Look – About the Artist:
Soul in Motion Players is a performing arts organization founded by percussionist Michael Friend in 1984. This energetic dance ensemble, led by Associate Director Pam Rhone, highlights choreography and drum rhythms inspired by West African culture.  They have been featured at Dance Africa, the Kunta Kinte Festival in Annapolis, the Juneteenth Celebration in St. Mary's County, and many other venues on the East coast.

As they begin their 25th year in the arts, Soul in Motion Players is embarking on a partnership with the Smithsonian Institution’s Museums of African Art, Natural History, Postal Museum, Discovery Theater and the National Zoo.  Together the partners will celebrate the exhibit: “Artful Animals” opening in mid-July in the Museum of African Art.  You can keep up with their classes, performances and events by visiting their website http://www.soulinmotionplayers.org.
